This short video provides a brief introduction on where network security is at the current point in time. It highlights that SDN has emerged as the next big market in the networking industry.

Given the hype, researchers at Standford university are busy with `bringing the tenets of virtualization to networking´ and thus, `creating the software-defined networking market´ (IDG.tv, 2017).

Four different application areas are highlighted in the further course of the video:

• Wide-Area Networks (SD-WAN);
• The Cloud;
• Network Function Virtualization (NFV);
• Internet of Things (IoT).
