According to IHS Markit report, the security is the top concern for enterprises when they select a data center switch vendor, identifying Cisco, Dell, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), Juniper, and Huawei as top five data center Ethernet switch vendors.
According to IHS Markit’s Data Center Strategies and Leadership North American Enterprise Survey, security and reliability were chosen as top criteria for enterprises when selecting a data center Ethernet switch vendor, while pricing was ranked lower.
According to the report, enterprises have chosen security as their top criteria, with reliability following closely. Since such applications are quite critical to business, it does not come as a surprise that these two were top picks for enterprises.
“On-premises data centers are likely targets, and equipment that can be compromised because it has not been designed to withstand attacks can expose the enterprise to unwanted risks,” said Cliff Grossner, senior research director and advisor for cloud and data center at IHS Markit.
“As enterprises’ applications served from the on-premises data center become more critical to the business, their ability to tolerate service interruptions is significantly reduced,” he added.
While there were only several vendors listed in the survey, these are some of the most popular ones and Cisco managed to get the first place with 44 percent of respondents placing it at the top three across all categories. Dell got the strong second place, with HPE, Juniper, and Huawei trailing closely.
While many enterprises are moving to the cloud, there is a noticeable trend of this transformation, with IHS Markit predicting that enterprise-purchased services will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 2 percent from 2017 to 2022.
