Fortinet has announced its push into SD-WAN market by starting to offer a comprehensive SD-WAN solution which provides both its FortiGate Next-Generation Firewall with SD-WAN offering.
According to Fortinet, although there are over 60 SD-WAN vendors, the company has still seen the need to offer a complete solution by offering its combined SD-WAN/security offering, allowing customers to have the complete solution rather than deal with two different vendors.
According to the announcement, more than 90 percent of SD-WAN vendors do not offer security, at least not in the way that Fortinet does with its FortiGate next-generation firewall, which allows the company to successfully compete with all those SD-WAN vendors.
The company has a significant customer base for its FortiGate firewall, so it makes sense for it to try to bundle SD-WAN with it as a complete solution, managed to a centralized controller.
Fortinet was keen to note that it has expanded its SD-WAN features With the latest FortiOS release, adding routing, WAN optimization, SD-WAN, and security, all in a single device.
“The enterprise branch is undergoing intense digital transformation and we’re seeing application consumption models rapidly move to the cloud. As our customers move toward direct internet access, they understand the growing need for next-generation firewall capabilities and high SSL inspection performance”, said John Maddison, SVP of products and solutions at Fortinet.
“To make sure customers realize the benefits of SD-WAN without compromising security, Fortinet has evolved our advanced SD-WAN features in the latest FortiOS releases. This focus on secure SD-WAN is clearly resonating with the hundreds of customers and partners who are taking advantage of Fortinet’s unique combination of next-generation firewall and SD-WAN in the same offering, managed through a single centralized controller”, he added.
Some of the biggest clients for Fortinet’s secure SD-WAN include Alorica, which has 140 locations across 16 countries, Integra Data Systems, Superunie, and others.
